The Mar Menor is a pond or lagoon salt water of the Mediterranean Sea located in the Region of Murcia, southeastern Spain. It is the most extensive Spanish pond and has environmental values to be protected, as the tourism its main economic activity.

Semicircular, is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a strip of sand 22 km long and between 100 and 1,200 m wide, called La Manga. In its perimeter coastline has 73 km of coastline, which are happening beaches with clear waters and shallow (maximum depth is not more than 7 m) and is 135 km².

In its lower limit is the Cabo de Palos with its distinctive lighthouse. In your area south are five islands or islets of volcanic origin, three are called major islands: Island Perdiguera Island Mayor and Baron and Deer Island; and two smaller islands, Round or Rondella Subject island to island.

From north to south the coast that bathes the Mar Menor belong to the municipalities of San Pedro del Pinatar (populations of Lo Pagan and The Cuarteros), San Javier (population of Santiago de la Ribera and most of La Manga), Los Alcazares and Cartagena (populations of El Carmoli, Los Urrutias, Los Nietos, Minor Islands, Mar de Cristal, Paradise Beach and part of La Manga), the municipality with more extension of the Mar Menor coast.
